Museum Studies Graduate Library Assistantship

Marist-LdM Graduate Library Assistantship

The Graduate Library Assistant will work closely with LdM librarians, as well as faculty and staff of the MA in Museum Studies Program to support a Museum Studies reference library.  The Graduate Library Assistant will maintain open reference library hours, work directly with library users, and maintain and manage the Museum Studies reference collection of approximately 2500 sources. This is a hands-on position that requires a flexible, pro-active individual who is skilled at multi-tasking. Experience working in a library is an advantage.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Provide reference services through a variety of means to Marist-LdM Museum Studies faculty, staff, and students

2. Instruct user on the use of print and electronic resources for research related purposes

3. Develop appropriate knowledge of print and electronic reference sources both in Florence and in Poughkeepsie, including the libraries’ catalog and subscription databases

4. Perform other duties as assigned

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a fully admitted graduate student to the MA in Museum Studies program
  • Must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 for the duration of the assistantship
  • Meet requirements to be eligible for employment by a U.S. university
  • Graduate Assistantships require a commitment of between 10 to 15 hours of work per week. The actual number of hours completed in any given week may not exceed 15 hours.  A maximum of two of the weekly worked hours can be done from home with prior approval from the supervisor
  • The rate of compensation for Graduate Assistantships is $12 per hour
