Students studying Fashion Design abroad in Italy will build off the skills and techniques learned in the introductory figure drawing course to develop illustration in their renderings. Fashion students will sketch figures and add garments using different types of media such as colored pencils and markers, while practicing colors and shading for effect.
Drawing and Color in Fashion Design I Course Overview
Course requirements include illustrating personal designs to represent their own styles and taste. Students will gain inspiration from class trips to Ferragamo Museum, the Gallery of Costume at the Pitti Palace, trade fairs, and design studios. They will also be given a first-hand look at the ins-and-outs of the fashion design career, as well as gain an understanding of all the steps involved in creating a full collection of clothing. An artistic background is helpful to be successful in this course but not required.
Fashion design students must complete a prerequisite of Fashion Figure Drawing or the equivalent. Fashion Design I: Drawing and Color is listed at LdM under FAS 160.
