ART 335 / CLT 335 Art and Creative Literature Class in Florence Italy
The Images and Words course looks at an innovative ways of studying art through the parallels of works of art, imagery and narrative prose. A deeper meaning of art can be found in its psychology, history, and culture and will be studied in this interdisciplinary course.
The Images and Words course will begin looking at the role of a viewer of art through photography and digital media. The course will also progress through the story of art inspired by the viewer. Students will learn to decipher if paintings tell stories or if stories can express the power of a piece of art.
Paintings, sculptures, photography, film, video, digital art, narrative prose, fiction, and poetry are all different artistic mediums discussed in this class. Students of the Images and Words course will put their theories into practice as spectators and observers and then translate their findings into sketches and writings.
The ART 335 / CLT 335 Images and Words course combines the study of art and creative literature, exploring the vast meanings that lie within each. The Images and Words course is taught at the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute in Florence Italy, through the Marist four-year study abroad program. Exploring art and literature the city of Florence, will serve as the inspiration for this course. Marist Italy students will gain an appreciation for the study of art and literature in this cultural and historically rich city.
