Design Sewing Techniques is formatted to teach students who are earning their Fashion Design Bachelor’s degree at Marist-LdM the basics of stitching and sewing as a technical skill. In the studio, students will work with industrial and household sewing machines to practice techniques and observe how each machine provides an efficient sewing method.
Sewing Techniques Course Overview
This studio techniques course reviews all stitching patterns used within the apparel industry. The course will cover methods of basting, hemming, French seam, mock French seam, flat-felled seam and more. Students will also gain experience with sewing side seams, darts, pleats, princess lines, necklines, and practice attaching zippers, pockets, and interfacings. With the comprehensive coursework students complete a simple project due at the close of the course.
