An introductory course, the Textile Science class introduces students to the materials used in fashion design in respect to textiles and fabrics. Through the duration of the course a comprehensive overview will be given of the textile industry and its development. Fashion Design Students will explore the process of dyeing, printing, and finishing of textiles and fabrics.
Textile Science is part of the course requirements within the Fashion Design Bachelor’s degree at Marist LdM.
Textile and Fabric Course Overview
Through the Textile and Fabric Science course students will learn widely used textile industry terminology such as types of yarn, cloth construction, basic weaves, fibers and their origin, structure, properties, and characteristics. This knowledge is essential in the creation of garments to ensure designers choose appropriate fabrics for their designs.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Fashion Industry, or equivalent
